Japan public opinion turns most negative on China in 9 years
A recent survey conducted by Genron NPO found that Japanese views of China are the most negative since 2014. Over 92% of Japanese respondents had a negative impression of China, while 63% of Chinese respondents had a negative view of Japan. The survey was conducted during Japan's discharge of treated wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear plant, which China strongly objected to. The dispute over the water discharge was cited as the main obstacle to repairing ties between the two countries.
