“EkPedMaaKeNaam” Campaign organised by NDMC

New Delhi:- LG  Vinai Kumar Saxena  planted a sapling of “Rudraksh” under the “EkPedMaaKeNaam” Campaign organised by New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). Shri Saxena planted the sapling at Lodhi Garden in the honour of his mother, Smt Vedwati Saxena, in the presence of Hon’ble MP (New Delhi), Ms Bansuri Swaraj, NDMC Chairman, Shri Naresh Kumar, Vice Chairman, Shri Satish Upadhyay and Council Member Shri Girish Sachdeva. The dignitaries too planted Rudraksh saplings at Lodhi Garden. Later, the LG also accompanied Hon’ble Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Shri Om Birla, in planting a sapling at his residence. The plantation was carried out as a part of the mass plantation drive by NDMC, wherein a most of Central Govt. Ministers, Judges of the Supreme Court and the High Court and other dignitaries planted trees in the name of their mothers, in the New Delhi area. Union Ministers, namely, Shri Manohar Lal Khattar, Shri Jitan Ram Manjhi, and Shri Kiren Rijiju,  also planted the saplings of Rudraksh and Champa at their esidences in the New Delhi area. NDMC Member, Smt. Vishakha Shailani also planted a sapling with her mother at their residence.

Similarly, Hon’ble Judges of the Supreme Court and the Delhi High Court, apart from the top government officials including the Cabinet Secretary and Union Home Secretary also took part in the mass plantation drive by planting a sapling of Rudraksh at their residences.  On this occasion, Shri Saxena said that the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” Campaign, launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on the World Environment Day, was aimed at improving the green cover to mitigate pollution and sustaining the environment. “It is heartening to see the government agencies and the citizens alike, participating in this campaign with great enthusiasm. With collective efforts, we will be able to strengthen Delhi’s green lungs and make the national Capital a better and place to live,” Shri Saxena said while congratulating the NDMC for this plantation drive wherein city residents and NDMC employees planted more than 10,000 saplings of various species. Notably, a team of trained horticulture experts will look after these Rudraksh saplings for their proper growth and survival.

Shri Saxena added that to improve the green cover of whole Delhi, a targetof planting 76 lakhs tree and shrubs has been set up  by local bodies, DDA and other agencies in their respective areas. In all, more than 10,000 saplings were planted by NDMC’s employees, Resident Welfare Association (RWAs), Market Traders Association (MTAs), morning walkers/joggers, Cyclists visiting the garden/parks, visitors/citizens of New Delhi area, School Students, teachers and general public in the NDMC area. In the ensuing monsoon season, NDMCisalso implementing a Green Action Plan by launching a tree plantation drive in its area with the target of planting around 12,000 trees and 06 lakh shrubs, saplings.   
Species: The Sapling of various species were planted under the campaign such as Plumeria alba—Champa,Elaeocarpusganitus—Rudraksha,Azadirachtaindica–Neem, Grevillearobusta-- Silver Oak Lagerstroemia thorelli-- Jarul. Pride of India, Polyalthea pendula—Ashok, Alstoniascholaris–Saptparni, Ficusinfectoria --PilkhanNyctanthesarbortristis --Haarsingar and Tamirandusindica-- Imli  Vital Statistics: •        In order to maintain and upkeep of environment of New Delhi area, NDMC  maintaining approximately 1500 acres of green area and 135 Green Avenues, 10 Major Parks, 1400 Residential Colony Parks, 50 Roundabouts, 10 departmental Nurseries including 3 Hi- Tech Nurseries, 3 International Relationships Memorial Parks, many Happiness Areas and prestigious Garden like Nehru Park, Lodi Garden, Talkatora Garden and Sanjay Jheel, Children Park - India Gate, Central Parks - Connaught Place, CWG Park, Shanti Path etc. New Delhi area is recognised for its greenery, which not only creates an island of soothing effect but also mitigates the heating effect of air & dust pollution to certain extent.
