Goyal Felicitates LEAPS 2025 Winners, Releases LEADS Report; Sets $1 Trillion Export Target
New Delhi:- Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal felicitated winners of the LEAPS Awards 2025 across 13 categories and released the Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS) 2025 report in New Delhi.The event saw participation from senior government officials, industry associations, logistics stakeholders, startups, MSMEs, academic institutions, and evaluation committee members.India Covered 38 Economies Through 9 FTAs: Goyal
Addressing the gathering, Shri Goyal said India has covered 38 developed and prosperous economies through nine Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) over the last three and a half years. Four FTAs are already operational and five more are expected to come into force in the next 12 months.Along with earlier FTAs with Japan, Korea and ASEAN countries, these agreements now cover more than two-thirds of global trade and economies, he added.The Minister said India is actively negotiating trade agreements with Chile and Maldives, with both expected to conclude before year-end. Negotiations are also underway with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), covering Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, besides Oman and the UAE. India is also in active discussions with Canada, Eurasia, Mexico, SACU and Mercosur to expand market access.Record $863 Bn Exports in FY 2025-26
Shri Goyal said India achieved an all-time high export figure of USD 863 billion in the financial year ending March 31, 2026, despite global challenges including high tariffs, the Ukraine conflict and the West Asia crisis.While global growth has slowed, India’s exports grew nearly 5% over the previous year, with services exports recording growth of around 8.5-9%. The Government has now set an aspirational export target of USD 1 trillion for the current year, supported by operationalisation of multiple FTAs.He said the West Asia crisis and other global disruptions should be viewed as opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce logistics costs and expand export markets.Logistics Cost Reduction a National Mission: Minister
Shri Goyal said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken up reduction of logistics costs as an urgent national mission to make India globally competitive. Investments in infrastructure, seamless logistics systems, faster transportation and improved delivery are helping improve efficiency and competitiveness.He noted that State Governments and private companies have contributed significantly towards strengthening the logistics ecosystem. Initiatives like GST, decriminalisation of laws, reduction of compliance burdens and simplification of processes are creating a more seamless business environment.India’s strengths include its democratic framework, large domestic demand, young population, strong digital infrastructure and 1.4 million STEM graduates annually. Nearly 1,700-1,800 Global Capability Centres are operational in India, with another 500 in the pipeline.LEADS 2025: New Four-Tier Framework
Shri Goyal also released the LEADS 2025 report, the seventh edition of DPIIT’s flagship assessment of logistics performance across States and UTs.
