NDMC Chairman Inaugurates Annual Inter-Departmental Sports Competition

New Delhi :- Inaugurated the NDMC Annual Inter-Departmental Sports Competition 2025–26 for officers and employees at Talkatora Cricket Ground, New Delhi, marking the beginning of a vibrant celebration of fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship.  inaugural ceremony was attended by Vice Chairman, NDMC Shri Kuljeet Singh Chahal, Council Members Shri Anil Valmiki and Smt. Sarita Tomar, Secretary, NDMC Shri Rakesh Kumar, senior officers of NDMC, a large number of employees, and school children, reflecting wide participation and enthusiasm across the organisation. Addressing the gathering,  Keshav Chandra emphasised the vital role of sports in maintaining physical fitness, mental well-being, and discipline. He highlighted that sports are intrinsically linked to a healthy lifestyle and recalled the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision through initiatives such as the Khelo India Movement, which underscores the importance of sports in nation-building. He noted that NDMC is actively implementing various initiatives to promote sports and fitness among its employees and students.  After formally declaring the sports meet open, the Chairman administered the sportsmanship oath to participating employees, urging them to compete in the true spirit of fair play, discipline, and motivation. 

 Chairman informed that the Inter-Departmental Sports Competition will continue till 13th March, 2026, featuring a wide range of events including track races, discus throw, shot put, javelin throw, tug of war, carom, table tennis, badminton, chess, and other sporting disciplines. More than 3,000 NDMC employees are participating in the competition. He expressed hope that even greater participation will be witnessed in future editions, fostering fitness and holistic well-being among officers and staff. Encouraging the participants, Vice Chairman, NDMC Shri Kuljeet Singh Chahal remarked that the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has consistently highlighted that sports are not merely about competition but are a foundation for confidence, discipline, teamwork, and a healthy lifestyle. He said initiatives such as Fit India Movement, Khelo India, and the Yoga Campaign have strengthened the belief that a healthy India is a strong India. He added that the ongoing sports event truly reflects this inspiring vision by promoting fitness, unity, and positive energy among NDMC employees. 

 Vice Chairman further stated that sports not only enhance physical strength but also instil leadership qualities, teamwork, and self-confidence. Reiterating the age-old belief that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body, he affirmed NDMC’s continued commitment to encouraging sports and fitness culture across all departments.  Adding to the excitement of the day, a friendly cricket match was organised between Chairman-XI and Vice Chairman-XI, comprising senior NDMC officers. The Chairman-XI won the toss and opted to bat. Both teams displayed high enthusiasm and sporting spirit, with Shri Keshav Chandra and Shri Kuljeet Singh Chahal leading their respective teams and motivating the players throughout the match.  The event set an energetic tone for the month-long sports competition, reinforcing NDMC’s commitment to fostering health, unity, and a vibrant work culture among its employees.
