3 years' jail in DA case for former minister in Mayawati govt

Former UP minister Rakesh Dhar Tripathi has been sentenced to three years' rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 10 lakh in a disproportionate assets case. The court stated that if Tripathi fails to pay the fine, he will serve an additional six months in jail. Tripathi, who served as higher education minister in the BSP government from 2007 to 2012, has filed a bail application and has been released on bail pending his appeal. His counsel argued that the case against him was politically motivated.
