Kuljeet Singh Chahal inaugurated the renovated Aspirational Toilet on the occasion of World Toilet Day 2025.
New Delhi :- Under the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji for Viksit Bharat@2047, and on the occasion of World Toilet Day 2025, Vice Chairperson Shri Kuljeet Singh Chahal inaugurated the Aspirational Toilet near Gol Dak Khana, New Delhi, today in the presence of senior NDMC officials. Speaking at the inauguration, Shri Chahal said that this year the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), in partnership with Sulabh International, is observing World Toilet Day on the theme: “Sanitation: Collective Responsibility for Dignity and Planet.”He stated that NDMC is committed to providing world-class, inclusive, accessible, and sustainable sanitation infrastructure for residents, workers, and visitors. He emphasized that Aspirational Toilets represent NDMC’s vision of offering dignified, clean, and safe public conveniences.
He said the inaugurated toilet has been renovated in accordance with MoHUA guidelines, incorporating the highest standards of hygiene, infrastructure quality, and user accessibility. It features 24×7 water availability, trained caretakers, adequate ventilation and lighting, leak-free fittings, hand dryers/paper-napkin dispensers, soap dispensers, baby-feeding room, gender-segregated entrances, and a sanitary napkin vending machine. To enhance user convenience, the toilet displays contact numbers of caretakers and sanitation inspectors, includes a complaint helpline, QR-code based feedback linked with the Swachhata App, an O&M roster, and is geo-tagged as an SBM Toilet on Google Maps. Sustainability has been ensured through zero discharge of untreated wastewater, a sanitary napkin incinerator, and provision for revenue-generating advertisements to support O&M, he informed. Shri Chahal reiterated that NDMC’s Aspirational Toilet initiative reflects the Council’s ongoing commitment to public health, sustainability, and ease of living. He appealed to all citizens to maintain cleanliness and support NDMC’s sanitation efforts.
Inspection of Newly Constructed Science Park at Tughlaq Crescent Shri Chahal inspected the newly developed Science Park located at NDMC Science & Humanities Centre, Tughlaq Crescent Road. He informed that 16 interactive science exhibits have been installed, including Echo Tube, Projective Geometry, Lever Models, Camera Obscura, Whispering Garden, Action-Reaction, Sympathetic Swing, Musical Tubes, Lift Yourself, Solar Eclipse Model, Gravity Chair, Bucky Ball Climber, Periscope, Interactive Sundial, Value of Pi, and Inclined Plane. He expressed confidence that these exhibits will inspire curiosity and make science learning enjoyable for students and visitors. Shri Chahal urged parents, teachers, and students to visit the park once fully completed and experience science in an engaging, natural, and entertaining way.
Shri Chahal also gave directions to upgrade the Science Park’s infrastructure, including - Tiling of boundary walls with graffiti/mosaic designs, Redesigning of the entry gate to reflect scientific themes, Replacement of existing grills with improved fencing, Construction of a porta-cabin for ticketing/registration, Laying of interlocking tiles at the entrance, Landscaping and beautification upon completion of civil works and Establishing a Herbal Garden within the park premises. He gives directions to the concerned department to complete the project in a time bound manner.
He said that the objective behind establishing the Science Park is to promote scientific culture, nurture scientific temper, encourage creativity, and support research-led development that converts science into technology for societal benefit. Inspection of Newly Installed Escalators near RML Hospital & Willingdon Crescent Shri Chahal inspected the newly installed Escalators near RML Hospital and Willingdon Crescent. He noted that earlier escalators were non-operational for various reasons, but NDMC has now reinstalled new escalators for the convenience of residents and a large number of visitors to New Delhi. During the inspection, Shri Chahal directed to the concerned department to - Repair the kachcha portions surrounding the escalators, Repair missing railings, Paint escalator pillars, Undertake beautification of the entire area and ensure the escalators are fully operational at the earliest Shri Chahal emphasized that under the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, NDMC is working tirelessly to strengthen civic infrastructure and enhance citizens’ quality of life. He reaffirmed NDMC’s commitment to delivering modern, sustainable, and people-centric urban amenities across New Delhi.
