WJI Delegation Meets Minister Kapil Mishra Over Journalists' Issues, Demands Reopening of 'Media Coffee Home'
New Delhi | 15 April 26 | A delegation from the Delhi state unit of Working Journalists of India (WJI) met Delhi Government Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra on Wednesday. During the meeting, the journalists briefed the minister about issues and demands concerning media personnel in the capital. The delegation was led by Delhi state president Sandeep Sharma. He was accompanied by state general secretary Devendra Panwar, vice president Dharmendra Bhadauria, publicity incharg Jagjeet Singh, and other office bearers.
Push to restart 'Media Coffee Home' WJI submitted a letter to the minister requesting the reopening of the 'Media Coffee Home' at ITO. The office bearers said the Media Coffee Home was previously launched during the BJP government's tenure and operated under the Delhi Government's Tourism Ministry. It was later shut down and currently houses a restaurant. State president Sandeep Sharma said, "ITO is Delhi's media hub. Journalists coming from far-off places for coverage have no space to sit, work, or interact. Restarting the Media Coffee Home would provide relief to hundreds of journalists. The Delhi Government should have such a center in the capital.
According to state general secretary Devendra Panwar, Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra heard the matter seriously and assured it would be looked into. The minister said journalists are the fourth pillar of democracy and resolving their issues is the government's priority. A report will be sought from the Tourism Department on the Media Coffee Home proposal and appropriate action will be taken. The WJI Delhi unit recently held a meeting at Milap Bhawan, ITO, and decided to strongly raise journalists' issues with the government. The organization said it has also proposed creating separate cells for journalists' welfare. The Delhi unit is working under the guidance of WJI national president Sanjay Upadhyay, vice president Sanjay Saxena, and national general secretary Narendra Bhandari. The delegation also discussed journalist safety, health insurance, and press club facilities with the minister.
