Women Art Workshop “Shakti” at Triveni Kala Sangam
New Delhi:- Under the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji to promote art, culture, and women’s empowerment, the Vice-Chairperson of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Shri Kuljeet Singh Chahal, in the esteemed presence of renowned artist Shri Rameshwar Broota, today inaugurated NDMC’s five-day Women Art Workshop titled “Shakti: Celebrating Women in Indian Culture and Society” at Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi.
Shri Chahal informed that the workshop, organized in collaboration with Triveni Kala Sangam, commenced today i.e. March 27, 2026, and will continue until March 31, 2026. The workshop brings together 20 prominent women artists, who will collectively showcase the essence of “Shakti” through their creative expressions on canvas. Expressing his happiness, Shri Chahal announced that this initiative will now become part of NDMC’s Annual Cultural Programme. He stated that NDMC will organize this workshop every year, further strengthening its commitment to promoting art, culture, and women’s empowerment, while providing a permanent platform for women artists to showcase their talent and perspectives.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Chahal emphasized that art has always been a powerful medium for expressing identity, resistance, and transformation. He highlighted that the workshop aims to explore and visually interpret the journey of women in India—past, present, and future. He added that the initiative offers women artists an opportunity to reflect on the concept of “Shakti,” not only as a traditional symbol of feminine power but also as a dynamic force driving social change in contemporary times.
Speaking to the gathering, Shri Rameshwar Broota said that the workshop encourages participants to engage with themes such as identity, equality, agency, community, and self-expression. Drawing inspiration from both personal experiences and societal contexts, the participating artists present diverse interpretations of “Shakti,” thereby fostering dialogue, creativity, and cultural exchange. On the occasion, the Director of Triveni Kala Sangam, Shri Amar Shridharani, shared his views on the importance of such collaborative platforms in nurturing artistic talent and promoting cultural engagement.
Shri Chahal further noted that the workshop aligns with NDMC’s broader vision of recognizing women not merely as beneficiaries of development, but as active contributors to cultural, social, and economic progress. The “Shakti” workshop celebrates the diversity of women’s experiences and seeks to inspire a deeper understanding of their transformative role in modern India. He also mentioned that the presence of Shri Rameshwar Broota, one of India’s most respected contemporary artists, made the occasion especially significant and a matter of pride for NDMC.
Shri Chahal informed that the workshop will culminate with a special exhibition at Triveni Kala Sangam on March 31, 2026, showcasing the artworks created during the programme. On the occasion, Shri Chahal, along with participating artists and dignitaries viz Shri Rameshwar Broota, Shri Harshwardhan Sharma, Shri Amar Shridharani, Ms.Kritika Choudhary planted a sapling within the premises of Triveni Kala Sangam under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, an initiative launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi.
Shri Chahal stated that the “Shakti” workshop is expected to serve as a vibrant platform for artistic expression, dialogue, and collaboration. This initiative aligns with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of promoting art, culture, and women’s empowerment, while advancing a cultural ethos rooted in empowerment, inclusion, and transformation. It also reinforces NDMC’s vision of promoting art and culture by providing artists with a platform and encouraging creativity and cultural awareness in society.
He informed that, the prominent artists participating in the workshop include Ms. Vasundhara Tewari Broota, Ms. Kanchan Chander, Ms. Seema Kohli, Ms. Bula Bhattacharya, Ms. Sangeeta Murthy, Ms. Tara Sharma, Ms. Indu Tripathi, Ms. Vijaya Ved, Ms. Suryasnata Mohanti, Ms. Anita Tanwar, Ms. Reena Singh, Ms. Kanchan Prakash, Ms. Sweta Rai, Ms. Shampa Bhattacharjee, Ms. Sangeeta Singh, Ms. Surabhi Shubham, Ms. Moitreyi Kumar, Ms. Meenakshi Jha Manarji, Ms. Anjum Khan, and Ms. Sumita Kathuria. Their collective presence highlights the richness and diversity of contemporary Indian art and underscores the vital role of women artists in shaping the cultural landscape. The inauguration ceremony was attended by a large number of art students, eminent artists, NDMC Advisor (Art & Culture) Shri Harshwardhan, Director (Art & Culture) Ms. Kritika Chaudhary, NDMC officials and several other dignitaries.
